ballet brings life long friendships
When I reflect back on my early days as a first-time mum, I can’t help but remember the feeling of isolation. It was through my love of ballet that my adult friendships blossomed. My ballet business has led me to some life-long friends, none of whom I would have met if it wasn’t for our mutual love of ballet.
One of the things I eagerly looked forward to as a first-time mum was taking my toddler to activities and meeting other parents. I saw these outings as an opportunity for casual chats and weekly catch-ups with like-minded individuals. But I must admit, approaching these groups of women felt a lot like dating – it was intimidating! Little did I know that these encounters would lead me to forge incredible friendships with women who shared similar journeys.
park play dates and cozy coffee catch-ups
What began as simple pleasantries like “Hi, how was your week?” gradually evolved into park play dates and cozy coffee catch-ups with babycinos. These amazing women have become more than just acquaintances – they’ve become trusted friends I can rely on. We’ve reached a point where we can call each other and say, “I’m running late, could you please pick up my daughter?” The bonds we’ve formed are profound, and we’ve been able to lean on one another during times of need. We’ve shared dinners, taken care of each other’s children, and made it a point to check in on one another regularly.
Through my children’s activities, I’ve met some extraordinary people. A supportive midwife who guided me through the ups and downs of breastfeeding my daughter. Crossing paths with a compassionate sleep nurse who offered invaluable assistance while I juggled work and parenting. A childcare owner who understands the unique challenges of running a business while raising a family. I was even fortunate enough to meet a ballet teacher at my child’s martial arts class, who is now the Creative Director at Tiny Toes Ballet. And the list goes on – I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful individuals who have enriched my parenting journey.
try and challenge yourself
So, here’s my challenge to you: the next time you find yourself at a ballet class or any other activity, put your phone away and take a moment to introduce yourself to the person standing next to you. Who knows what might happen next? You just might find your tribe – a group of kindred spirits who will support and uplift you on your parenting journey. Take that leap of faith, and let the magic of connection unfold.
