When I first started applying for awards I felt like I was asking for approval or ‘had tickets on myself.’ I didn’t feel completely comfortable with the idea.
Then I started thinking about our Tiny Toes Terrific Team of Teachers and our Customer Happiness Managers and what we do 6 days a week for 9 years now and thought – “Gee, they are absolute rock stars, literally angels from heaven working as an incredibly inspirational team. They have helped make Tiny Toes Ballet be THE place to send children to learn in a professional yet relaxed environment. Where children learn through joy.
We have always delivered enchanting ballet classes with adorable tutus and warm nurturing teachers. We have happy ballerinas and raving parents. We sparkle on social media and in our advertising.
Our concerts are shouted from the rooftops as being unique, fabulous, wonderful, memory making, endearing – with divine affordable tutus. (Huge thanks to Michelle at Perform Dance Costumes.)
All this needs to be rewarded and recognised!
It was pointed out to me by speaker Stacey Morgan (Principal and owner of Port Macquarie Dancers) when I attended a Dance Teacher Network seminar that as owners of small businesses we often performance review our staff but not ourselves and our businesses.
I didn’t know this before I started applying for awards that the questions are really in-depth. The average application can take up to 36 hours to complete. Most of the questions require deep introspection and business analysis.
Day to day as I work in each area, I can ask myself each question.
“How do I display leadership in Tiny Toes Ballet?”
“How does Tiny Toes Ballet contribute to the community?”
“What is our 5-year plan for Tiny Toes Ballet?”
All these questions and more help us to set goals, upskill, learn and implement ideas to make Tiny Toes Ballet be THE place for 2-7-year-old kids learn to ballet and dance!
And sooooo….
This week I entered Tiny Toes Ballet into The Hills Small Business Expo Awards which are to be announced at The Hills Business Small Business Expo on Thursday, November 7th. Proudly presented by Caroline Bagga from Hills District Business Mums.
I am thrilled to announce that we have entered the following categories:
Fastest Growth Award: This award recognises a business that has grown at an exceptional rate (must have been in business for more than 2 years).
Community Contribution Award: This award recognises a person, charity or not-for-profit organisation that is making a significant impact in their community.
Mumpreneur Of The Year Award: This award recognises a woman with exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, who is juggling both roles; Mum and Entrepreneur.
Small Business Of The Year: This award recognises a small business that has achieved outstanding results in all aspects of business, including marketing, profitability, impact and customer service
Whether we win or not, the process has inspired and motivated me. It has reminded me that my team and the 1000+ ballerinas and danseurs and parents that we meet each week have chosen well. Tiny Toes Ballet, in my opinion, is an award-winning ballet school.
Here are some of the awards we have won over the past few years:
Here at Tiny Toes Ballet we are doing something bigger than ourselves inspiring the future generation of dancers!
Please join me in crossing your fingers, toes, legs and in ballet we say “entrechats” and chookas. I will be sure to let you know how we go!

So why is dancing good for my child?

During our kindy dance classes kids are exposed to different types of musical instruments and rhythms; With age-appropriate music and choreography, our Kindy kids learn best with familiar songs that are aimed at their age level that make Mum happy too!
Kids learn more than just dance. Lining up, taking turns, following 5-part instructions, left and right, manners and more. Thus strengthening their listening skills and ability to learn and pick up quickly.
Consistent, caring adults are important for kid’s healthy development. The rapport/strong bond between a ballet and dance teacher and their students is very special. A child’s first ever ballet teacher is a hugely important person in their lives. Learning processes involve internalizing, rehearsing and repeating. Kids feel a huge sense of accomplishment through skills learnt in dance class.

Children who dance gain an appreciation of classical ballet, if not to make dancers then to make an appreciative audience.
Ballet friends are lifelong friends! Through shared experiences, strong bonds are made. When the chips are down at school it is always nice to have another circle of friends.
Kindy is the perfect time to introduce ballet and jazz dance movement vocabulary at a faster pace, and with higher expectations.
If you have a two to seven-year-old who loves to twirl and leap, our dance school’s ballet & dance classes might be the right fit for your child. Come and trial a Primary Dance Academy class on a Saturday morning or after school during the week!

Preschool kids love moving to music.
Get your kids to start preschool dance! Nurture your kid’s potential in dancing while they are young. Preschool is the right time to start their ballet and dance journey.
Not everyone will grow up to be a professional dancer, however learning to dance is a wonderful life skill. Kids love singing nursery rhymes or dancing along with Emma Wiggle. Young kids learn easily, especially when they participate in guided kids’ activities like creative dance games where they can have fun while learning. Encourage your kids to dance and sing along to the songs they love!
Watch our gorgeous preschool & kindergarten kids in our fabulous end of year dance magic. Would you love to see your daughter wearing a pink tutu whilst twirling? Having them attend ballet lessons will also help improve their posture.
Attending kids’ activities like preschool dance classes will not only teach your kids how to dance; they can also learn so much more.
At Tiny Toes Ballet we start our preschool kids as young as 2 and 1/2 years.

The most popular type of dance that is taught to young kids is ballet dancing.
Tiny Toes Ballet’s magical classes are based on the Royal Academy of Dance’s Preschool Curriculum. Our classes are specially aimed at preschool level and our programme aims to capture and nurture young children’s instinctive joy of movement and freedom of expression.
Our classes are themed. In “Under the Sea”, the children find a message in a bottle. They go looking for sea horses, jump on jellyfish and dance for mermaids. The children will be doing ballet and not even realise it!
We will wow you, your friends and family with our free to watch, no fuss, no make up, gorgeous end of year in-class concert where your child will wear a beautiful age appropriate costume!
Also encourage them to join our kindergarten dance program to improve their self-confidence in those huge learning curve years. One day your budding ballerina may be onstage with the Australian Ballet Company!
You can browse Our Tales for more helpful tips and resources.

The ballet classes at Tiny Toes Ballet are based on the Royal Academy of Dance’s International Curriculum. As a result, our ballet classes address young children’s cognitive, motor and effective development. We use age-appropriate music and choreography. Movement is the medium through which creativity, expression and musicality are developed. There is no set uniform at Tiny Toes Ballet, so your child is welcome to wear what makes them feel comfortable. Fairy dress, dress up costume, leotard and skirt or bike pants and t-shirt.
Tiny Toes Ballet offers a range of ballet classes in the morning and afternoons throughout the school term. All our facilities are located near cafes, shopping centres and parking. There is no pressure at Tiny Toes Ballet. If you’re looking for a relaxed, fun and imaginative introduction to dance for your child, then Tiny Toes Ballet may be the right fit for you. You won’t feel like you’re just a number. You will be joining the Tiny Toes family.

All teachers at Tiny Toes Ballet are fully trained in the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. Every one of our staff has a Working with Children Check. Our teachers love and adore the little children in their lives, supervising them from the time they enter the class until they hand them back to their parents.
To create the best learning environment for our kids, Tiny Toes Ballet caps classes at 13 students with 1 teacher or 16 students with 2 teachers. Capped class numbers ensure individual student attention & increases student achievement.
The syllabus at Tiny Toes Ballet has imagination as its theme and is designed to engage and stimulate your child’s creativity and self-expression. The programming is so clever, using lots of imagery, props, little rhymes and games that teach the fundamentals of ballet. There is also school readiness/reinforcement; lining up, making a circle, taking turns, counting, following directions. The kids are learning ballet without realising it.
For our Kindy & Year 1 students we offer Primary Dance Academy. These classes are based on the Royal Academy of Dance’s International Curriculum. The classes are specially aimed at school level. Our ongoing teacher training and quarterly updates to our programme ensure a high standard of technique that we are justifiably proud of.
This formal programme enables our teachers to create strong and confident little dancers. As a result, we teach flexibility, technique and dance class etiquette with age appropriate music and dance steps. This ballet class challenges students technically whilst learning the joy of ballet and jazz.
At Tiny Toes Ballet, our end of year graduation concert is magical. You can bring as many family and friends as you like without having to pay for seats. In addition, you are welcome to take photos and videos of your own child. Your child’s concert will be held in the last lesson of Term 4 during your child’s usual class time, day and venue.
The dancers wear a beautifully themed age-appropriate tutu and have fun showing off the dances they have learnt during the term. And because your child is perfect just the way they are, they do not need to wear makeup.
Miss a class? No problem, Tiny Toes Ballet offers 2 makeup lessons per term.
A cause close to our hearts is Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic illness that affects 1 in 2,500 babies born in Australia. There is no cure at present and people with cystic fibrosis have to undergo constant physiotherapy and treatment throughout their lives. A portion of each child’s registration fees is donated to Cystic Fibrosis NSW. Throughout each year we hold fundraising concerts, crazy sock days and other activities to raise money and awareness of this life-threatening illness.

Winter school holidays is all about cold, cozy days and nights snuggled up next to your loved ones under a warm blanket with an oversized bowl of freshly popped popcorn. Winter school holidays usually centre around comfort food, soft pillows, warm tea and great movies. The cold weather is about oversized hoodies and marshmallows dipped in hot chocolate. Winter is about making new memories and the school holidays is about family!
So grab this opportunity and snuggle up with your beautiful ballerina or danseur for a fun movie night. It’s a great winter school holiday activity that won’t blow the budget.
These top ballet movies are the perfect way to warm your heart!

Join Angelina Ballerina and her friends for enchanting adventures filled with princesses, princes, kings and queens.
Dancing their way through Chipping Cheddar, Angelina encounters an evil witch. Along the way, Angelina also uncovers a Cinderella-like mystery and treats the king and queen to a regal performance. Therefore, bringing an epic tale to life with her friends!
This is a movie not to be missed!

Best friends Félicie and Victor hatch a plan to escape from their rural orphanage in 19th-century France.
Félicie dreams of becoming a ballerina, while Victor wants to use his brainpower to invent things.
After busting out, Félicie makes her way to the Paris Opera where she joins a class of highly trained dancers auditioning for the lead role in “The Nutcracker.”
In conclusion, this movie is jam packed with energy and excitement!

Kristyn and Hailey are whisked away to a magical ballet world ruled by an evil Snow Queen. After that, the two ballerinas dance in their favourite ballets to defeat the queen and make their dreams come true.
This has to be one of my favourite ballet movies of all time!

In this live-action adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s fantastical ballet, young Marie awakens to find that toys and mice have grown much larger. After that, a villainous rodent ruler begins to torment her.
However, the Nutcracker Prince comes to Marie’s aid protecting her from the evil mouse amidst lively dance sequences.
In addition, we see the Sugarplum Fairy and her dashing cavalier inhabiting this dreamy realm.

Beatrix Potter’s beloved characters come to life as dancers of the Royal Ballet perform five tales from the famous author.
In this thrilling performance, we’ll see some of your favourite characters like Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Tittlemouse & Tom Thumb to name a few.
Enjoy every precious moment watching these movies with your little ones, because the most important time is family time AND time is not refundable, so use it with intention!

Ballet is a perfect choice for parents who are looking for an activity that combines fun, creativity and exercise.
Tiny Toes Ballet goes the extra mile to ensure a magical experience for everyone.
The Tiny Toes Ballet program is based on the Royal Academy of Dance International Syllabus, but when the children are here, it doesn’t feel like they’re doing ballet.
Instead, they will be walking on tightropes with parasols, painting rainbows in the sky with ribbons and galloping with ponies.
Many people have a view of ballet as rigid and restrictive, but Tiny Toes Ballet takes a different philosophy.
Our ballet classes are intended to stimulate the imagination and foster your child’s creativity in a unique way.
age appropriate costumes and musicMany parents these days are rightly concerned about the age appropriateness of many dance costumes and music, not to mention feeling uncomfortable about putting makeup on their toddler or young daughter for performances.
At Tiny Toes Ballet, we believe that children should be children. We don’t use makeup and have beautiful age appropriate costumes for performances.
There is no set uniform, so your little dancer can express their own individuality and creativity while being comfortable during their classes.

Ballet for young children should be joyful and fun, not rigid and boring.
Our focus is on engaging students and helping them develop self-confidence and creativity as much as their technical dancing skills.
It’s not just for your little one either – our Dance with Mummy program is designed for children aged 2.5 years and older and lets mum, dad or nana dance alongside their little one for a beautiful experience for everyone.
stress-free for everyoneAt Tiny Toes Ballet, we aim to take the stress out of the whole process. All our facilities are located near cafés, parking and shopping centres.
We run classes at convenient times throughout the school term, including afternoons and weekends. If you miss a class it’s no problem, you can do a makeup class.

I am Laura. Some of you may know me as Miss Laura as I have the pleasure of teaching some of your very gorgeous children.
My journey with Tiny Toes Ballet began several years ago when I walked into my first ‘Dance With Mummy’ class with my then two year old. Having been a dancer for the best part of three decades and a ballet teacher for 15 years I had done my research and picked what I considered to be the best preschool dance programme available for my little ballerina. Needless to say I was not disappointed. In fact, I loved the programme so much, that I am now one of Tiny Toes Ballet’s senior teachers and let me tell you, I have the best job in the world.

So I guess some of you may be wondering why I chose Tiny Toes Ballet over the other programmes available in our area. The biggest draw card for me was that Tiny Toes Ballet are affiliated with the Royal Academy of Dance (also known as the RAD) which is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisations in the world. It has over 13,000 members spread across 83 countries and the Academy’s patron is none other than Her Majesty herself Queen Elizabeth II, so it could easily be said that the royal grandchildren and great grandchildren are probably learning the same syllabus that is being taught to my own daughter at Tiny Toes Ballet.

The Royal Academy of Dance offers an internationally recognised, time-honoured, comprehensive curriculum, grounded in educational and developmental theory. Students start with the Dance to Your Own Tune curriculum, which is what we deliver in our Tiny Toes Ballet classes. They then move through the Pre-Primary and Primary levels which we deliver in our Primary Dance Academy programme.
But it doesn’t end there, upon graduating from Tiny Toes Ballet, our students are well equipped to go on to attend higher dance training organisations where they can continue to study the Royal Academy of Dance’s eight graded and six vocational graded levels partaking in internationally recognised examinations and assessments.
I could go on but I will wrap it up here. From one mum to another mum who just happens to be a qualified ballet teacher, trust me when I tell you that you have chosen the best possible program for your little one to start their journey in dance. A journey that I hope will bring a lifetime of enjoyment and appreciation of the art of ballet.
