What more could a little ballerina or dancer ask for at home, so that they won’t miss ballet class too much (or their ballet teachers and friends)? Well, a ballet barre of course!
Get your dance on! Just pop on your favourite tutu, put on your ballet shoes and you’re ready to twirl.
what is a ballet barre used for?
A ballet barre is used by ballerinas and dancers to help them maintain their balance whilst warming up. Ballerinas and dancers will gently place their hand on the barre to help them focus on developing their technique, rather than having to concentrate on balancing.
how should a ballet barre be used?
A ballerina or dancer shouldn’t place their full weight on the barre. Your aim is to gently and lightly touch the barre. Your little ballerina will, of course, want to put their weight on the barre and this is perfectly fine as long as the ballet barre is steady. Just make sure they’re not swinging off it!
how to choose a kid’s ballet barre?
- Ballet barres are typically made from wood, metal or plastic
- Ballet barres made of metal or plastic are usually portable, whereas ones made of wood are typically bolted to a wall
- Plastic barres are lightweight and inexpensive, however, they have a short life expectancy and can easily break
which kid’s ballet barre do you recommend?
Tiny Toes Ballet recommends that you purchase a metal ballet barre. It has the option of being portable (think, taking it apart when it’s no longer required, moving it from room to room etc).
The other benefit of a metal ballet barre over a plastic ballet barre is how much sturdier it is over a plastic barre. Metal ballet barres are also relatively inexpensive and can withstand many more years of fun.
When purchasing a ballet barre, we also recommend one that adjusts in height as your little ballerina grows. This way she can enjoy it from early childhood and into her primary school years!
